- Low population growth and a decrease in irrigation needs should allow the region to meet growing demands in
industrial water use, including both manufacturing and the generation of electrical power.
- Natural salt pollution in the Middle Red River Basin prevents the full utilization of this surface water in this region
for municipal uses, while sedimentation has also reduced the amount of water the reservoirs in the area can hold.
- High nitrate concentrations in portions of the Seymour Aquifer-from both natural phenomena and from pollution
by feedlots, septic tanks, cesspools, and agriculture-preclude the aquifer's use for drinking water without expensive treatment.
- Wichita Falls's two reservoirs-Kickapoo and Arrowhead-have an available yearly supply of 45,600 acre-feet,
about 39,000 acre-feet less than the permitted total.
