  • Population is expected to grow by 75 percent between 1995 and 2050. Water demand will increase by a similar amount because of municipal and manufacturing demands.
  • The region has insufficient surface water supplies to meet expected demands.
  • Several of the smaller cities in the region will require expensive upgrades of their drinking water systems to meet Safe Drinking Water Act requirements.
  • Corpus Christi will not be able to meet its demands from Lake Corpus and Choke Canyon. The TWDB recommends the construction of conveyance facilities from Lake Texana on the Lavaca River by 2010, and from Garwood Irrigation District in the Colorado Basin by 2040.
